A friend of my age who has never exercised purchased 60 personal training lessons in order to lose weight and fight aging. After 30 days of hard training, she only lost about a pound. She was very upset and asked me why she could not lose weight?
Me: I told you go on a low carb diet, did you do it?
She: The fitness trainer said that muscles need insulin to synthesize. Low carb and low insulin levels are difficult to grow muscle. I still want to build muscle, so I didn’t follow a low-carb diet
Me: You have been taking high carbohydrates before, have you gained muscles?
Her: No, because I did not exercise!
Me: Then what you think is the key to building muscle? Is it carbohydrates? Or exercising?
She: It's exercise, but I still need insulin plus exercise to build muscle
Me: What is your primary goal? Do you want to gain muscle or lose weight?
Her: lose weight, I'm 30% overweight...
Dear sisters, especially those over 40 years old, don't be superstitious that you must eat carbohydrates to build muscle through strength training. Most of the fitness trainers are young people, and they exercise a lot. Their body's ability to metabolize and synthesize is completely different from ours.
As for people of our age, apart from cancer cells, what else can grow crazily in our bodies? High carbohydrates will not help us muscle synthesis, but will increase our blood sugar, store fat, and bring about various chronic diseases. Because of high blood sugar, high insulin levels are the root of almost all diseases.
The primary goal of middle-aged people is to keep blood sugar stable and lower insulin levels in order to fight inflammation, aging and cancer. With proper strength training, even a low-carb diet can definitely increase muscle mass. After all, our tangible goal is not to become Arnold Schwarzenegger, but to Improve muscle functionality, fitness and to control weight.
